Data made easy through IP Rights Overview

Discover our new data tool – making intellectual property (IP) rights filing information easier to understand.

Our new IP Rights Overview tool makes it faster and easier to explore the latest trends and developments in intellectual property (IP), whether you’re a data expert or a casual user.

Created by our Centre of Data Excellence team, this handy free tool creates user-friendly access to data on our website, with easy-to-read infographics and engaging visualisations.

It makes it easier to gather insights on complex IP filing trends, and is ideal for researchers, journalists, business professionals and anyone interested in data.

IP Rights Overview covers each of the four rights administered by IP Australia: patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder’s rights (PBR).

You can use it to explore and gain insights into patent, trade mark, design and PBR applications from the current and past two financial years including:

  • applicant names and origins
  • the type of IP right that was applied for
  • classifications and subtypes
  • filing trends.

It uses data updated weekly from IP RAPID, presented through a user-friendly platform.

While IP RAPID will remain our main publicly available dataset tailored for data experts and researchers, the IP Rights Overview tool illustrates this information in a streamlined way for everyday users.

This new tool will complement the comprehensive data in our annual IP Report, by making visually-appealing information available weekly.
