In 2024–25, IP Australia continued to strengthen Australia’s intellectual property (IP) landscape.

In 2024–25, IP Australia continued to strengthen Australia’s intellectual property (IP) landscape by championing a high-quality, customer-centric and efficient IP rights system.

Our IP Australia 2024–25 Annual Report, tabled on 5 November, highlights our performance, financial results and key achievements across innovation, impact, capability and customer service.

Key achievements include: 

  • championing innovation by developing artificial intelligence (AI) governance policies and exploring new technologies to enhance staff and customer experience
  • our pilot IP First Response tool to help users learn more about enforcement
  • helping improve global access for Australian designers and small businesses by negotiating the Riyadh Design Law Treaty
  • simplifying access to IP data for customers and stakeholders through IP Rights Overview, which supports national priorities
  • making the IP system more inclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the launch of our First Nations Strategy and Indigenous Knowledge Panel
  • launching a new People Strategy 2024–27 to attract, retain and develop a capable, connected and innovative workforce
  • achieving all our key performance indicators for quality and timeliness in the delivery of patents, trade marks, design rights and plant breeder’s rights.
